The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Neelam Azad and Mahesh Kumawat, both arrested in connection with the dramatic Parliament security breach that shook the nation on December 13, 2023.

A division bench of Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar issued the bail order with stringent terms: the accused are prohibited from making public statements, posting about the case on social media, or leaving the jurisdiction of Delhi.

Each accused must furnish a Rs 50,000 bail bond along with two sureties and report to the designated police station three times a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The breach occurred when six individuals allegedly linked via the ‘Bhagat Singh Fan Club’ coordinated a protest during the Lok Sabha’s Winter Session. Two intruders discharged colored gas canisters from the public gallery, creating a major security scare coinciding with the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

Investigations revealed the group used the encrypted Signal app to plan the act over 18 months. The event raised serious questions about Parliament’s security protocols and digital radicalisation.

While the court ruling provides temporary relief to the accused, the trial continues under intense public scrutiny.
