Preity Zinta Slams Third Umpire Over Controversial Call in PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 Clash

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta strongly criticized the third umpire following a contentious decision during the 15th over of PBKS’ innings against Delhi Capitals in an IPL 2025 match.

Taking to social media post-match, Zinta called the decision “unacceptable” for a tournament of such stature and technological sophistication.

The incident occurred when Shashank Singh appeared to hit a six off Mohit Sharma. Boundary fielder Karun Nair signaled the ball had cleared the rope after attempting a catch. However, the third umpire ruled that Nair had made a clean save, awarding only a single run to Punjab Kings.

Zinta later claimed on social media that both Karun Nair and the batter confirmed the shot had indeed gone for six.

“In a high-profile tournament with so much technology at the third umpire’s disposal, such mistakes are unacceptable. I spoke to Karun after the game and he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case,” Zinta wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The controversial decision proved costly, as PBKS lost by six wickets, denting their hopes of finishing in the top two. To qualify for Qualifier 1, PBKS must now beat Mumbai Indians, and hope RCB do not win big and Gujarat Titans fail to beat CSK.

In the match, PBKS scored 206/8, with Shreyas Iyer (53) and Marcus Stoinis (44 off 17) contributing heavily. However, Delhi Capitals chased down the target with three balls to spare, powered by an unbeaten 58 off 25 balls by Sameer Rizvi and 44 from Karun Nair.
