The Odisha Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has successfully apprehended a notorious conman who defrauded multiple victims under the pretext of securing high-paying jobs abroad.
The accused, Bishnu Prasad Pattanaik, alias Biranchi Narayan Pattnaik, was arrested in Bhubaneswar on May 21, 2025, after years of absconding.
Pattanaik had been operating a fraudulent job scheme, promising lucrative employment opportunities in reputed international airlines like British Airways and Lufthansa Airways. He duped his victims—qualified engineers—by issuing forged offer and appointment letters, demanding hefty sums in return.
The investigation revealed Pattanaik’s extensive fraud network spanning multiple cities, including Rayagada, Visakhapatnam, Berhampur, and Bhubaneswar. To evade arrest, he had fled to Cambodia in 2012, allegedly setting up an IT company while continuing his deceptive activities. Authorities issued a Lookout Circular in 2019, tracking his movements until his return to India in May 2025.
Based on technical intelligence and human surveillance, a special police team under Inspector Rajkishore Behera successfully apprehended Pattanaik in Bhubaneswar. He was produced before the SDJM, Gunupur, Rayagada District, under multiple charges including cheating, forgery, and impersonation (IPC Sections 420, 467, 468, 465, 506).
The CID continues to probe the accused’s operations, searching for potential accomplices and additional victims of his fraudulent job racket. Authorities have urged individuals who may have fallen prey to Pattanaik’s scam to report their cases immediately.
