Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall today as the depression that lay centred over the east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression.
According to the weather agency, the Depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Deep Depression about 580 km northwest of Port Blair.
“Depression over east central Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards, intensified into a deep depression and lay centered about 580km northwest of Port Blair, 700km south of Sagar Island and 830 km south of Barisal (Bangladesh),” the IMD informed.
According to the weather forecast, Cyclonic storm ‘Sitrang’ is expected to make landfall on Tuesday morning between Tinkona Island and Sandwip in Bangladesh.
Rainfall forecast:
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri today while heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack tomorrow, said the IMD.
The agency has also issued wind warning for Odisha in connection with the system.
“Squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is very likely along & off Odisha coast on 23rd October, squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely along & off Odisha coast on 24th October and squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph likely along and off Balasore district & 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along & off remaining north coastal area of Odisha on 25th October,” it added.
