Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday approved the proposed master plan for the development of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, Sambalpur under the 5T Initiatives. By 2026, more than 10,000 students can be enrolled in 24 undergraduate departments in this premier institution and Rs 2000 crore will be spent for the same in three phases.
On 25th August 2022, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra accompanied by Secretary to CM (5T) V.K. Pandian and Skill Development & Technical Education Principal Secretary Hemant Sharma, on the instructions of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, visited VSSUT Burla and proposed for preparation of a master plan to develop the varsity as a Center of Excellence (CoE).
According to the master plan, VSSUT will be developed as a Multi-Disciplinary Engineering & Research University by the year 2030. It will be at par with the premier engineering institutes of the country like IITs and NITs. It will have seven schools like School of Engineering, Skill Development Centre, School of Medical Technology and School of Basic Science etc.
According to the VSSUT development master plan, adequate facilities will be developed to accommodate about 10,864 students for studies in this premier institution. Currently, 2,849 students are studying in various courses at VSSUT. In the 7 new proposed schools, 24 engineering programs, more than 14 departments and more than 27 Centers of Excellence will be established. Each school will have dedicated classrooms, laboratories, chambers for professors and galleries. Besides, state-of-the-art research centers and laboratory facilities will be made available in all schools. Each Center of Excellence will join hands with various industries and at least one ex-student will take over as mentor. With this, each Center of Excellence can act as a state-of-the-art research and consultancy center for industries and also as a nodal center for rural and urban development.
In the meeting held today, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed to complete the construction of all smart classrooms within three months. The hostel and other repairs works will be completed immediately and the institution will be provided with 24-hour power supply, it was learned.
The Chief Minister also discussed about the delopment plans of VSSUT with the Vice Chancellor and Professors of the varsity. On the other hand, the varsity authorites and officials also all praised the transformation work and promised to work with commitment for the same.
Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra and senior officers were present in the discussion. Secretary to CM (5T) V.K. Pandian coordinated the meeting while Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education, presented the master plan for development of VSSUT as a Centre of Excellence.
