The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for several parts of Odisha as the Nor’wester — a seasonal thunderstorm — is expected to strike again today, bringing with it the risk of high-speed winds, intense lightning, and heavy rain.
According to the forecast, the weather disturbance is likely to affect Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts. The impact is expected to continue until 8:30 AM tomorrow.
This warning follows the severe Nor’wester storm that battered the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack yesterday, disrupting traffic, uprooting trees, damaging power lines, and plunging several areas into darkness. Residents reported strong gusts and sheets of rain that lasted nearly an hour, causing chaos during the evening commute.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay indoors during storm activity, avoid sheltering under trees, and to unplug sensitive electronic devices. Emergency services and local disaster response teams have been placed on alert in the affected districts.
Officials from the Special Relief Commissioner’s office stated that control rooms are monitoring the situation and coordinating with district administrations to minimize potential damage and ensure quick response to any incidents.
