The tragic death of Prisha Sah, a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar, has sparked serious concern, especially following a recent similar incident involving another Nepali girl student.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India issued a statement on Friday, expressing deep sorrow. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic demise of a Nepali student of KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” the statement read.

The MEA confirmed it has been in continuous contact with the Odisha Government since the incident came to light. It added that the Odisha Police are conducting a thorough investigation and that the state government is fully supporting the deceased’s family. “The Government of India takes the safety, security, and well-being of all international students very seriously,” the MEA emphasized, adding that coordination is ongoing with the Nepalese authorities, the Odisha government, and KIIT management.

The Embassy of Nepal has also taken prompt action. Earlier on Friday, its officials engaged in discussions with KIIT representatives, the Odisha Police, MEA officials, and other relevant authorities. The embassy has called for an independent and impartial investigation and stressed the need to ensure the safety of all Nepali students at the university.

Acting under instructions from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister, the embassy is maintaining continuous coordination with Indian authorities, including the Odisha Chief Minister’s office. It also summoned university representatives to gather further details and remains in regular contact with the bereaved family.

KIIT University, too, issued a statement via social media, saying, “We deeply mourn the untimely demise of our beloved student, Ms. Prisha Sah. All senior functionaries of KIIT gathered today to express condolences and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the student community. May her soul rest in peace.”
