Bhanjanagar: Panic gripped the residents of Naguda-Manitara area under Buguda forest range here in Ganjam district after a leopard, that got stuck in a trap laid to poach wild boars, managed to escape successfully.
According to reports, some locals spotted the big cat stuck in a trap laid in a hollow of a mountain on the outskirts of the village. They immediately alerted the same to the forest department officials.
But the time the forest department personnel reached the spot, they found that the animal forcefully broke the trap and then escaped.
Following this, the officials launched an operation to locate the leopard.
While the locals are in a state of panic, it is suspected that the animal must be roaming in the nearest forest.
