In a landmark moment for the Indian Civil Services, the 2023 batch of IAS officers has achieved the highest-ever representation of women, 74 women officers, accounting for 41% of the batch.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hailed this achievement, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for fostering women-led initiatives and inclusive governance.

The young officers are part of the Assistant Secretary Programme, an initiative launched in 2015 to provide early exposure to policymaking. The programme has played a crucial role in shaping capable administrators, allowing IAS trainees to work in 46 Central Ministries for eight weeks.

Dr. Singh highlighted the increasing diversity in civil services, with more officers hailing from Punjab, Haryana, and the North-East, as well as a significant number from engineering and medical backgrounds. He also emphasised the importance of technological adaptation, encouraging officers to leverage platforms like iGOT Karmayogi for continuous learning.

The Union Minister underscored the effectiveness of India’s grievance redressal system, citing the CPGRAMS platform, which boasts a 98% resolution rate. Additionally, he advocated for greater flexibility in civil services, suggesting a model where officers could gain experience outside government before returning as domain specialists.

As the batch embarks on their career journey, Dr. Singh urged them to uphold the principles of Viksit Bharat @2047, shaping India’s future with integrity, accountability, and commitment to public service.
