The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has intensified its scrutiny of coaching institutes following reports of misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices in the IIT-JEE and NEET preparation sector.

The regulatory body has issued multiple notices, warning coaching centres against making deceptive promises, including guaranteed placements and rank assurances.

Since the introduction of the Guidelines for the Prevention of Misleading Advertisements in the Coaching Sector, 2024, the CCPA has imposed penalties amounting to ₹77.60 lakhs on 24 coaching centres for non-compliance. Advertisements must now display transparent details, such as student names, ranks, and payment status, with disclaimers in an equally prominent font size.

The crackdown follows several complaints from students and parents regarding non-refund of fees, false claims, and deficient services. The authority has reinforced that coaching centres must uphold ethical business practices, ensuring students receive fair and accurate information before enrolling.

These latest measures underscore the government’s commitment to safeguarding student interests and enhancing transparency in the coaching sector. The CCPA encourages students and parents to report misleading advertisements to avoid falling prey to deceptive marketing tactics.
