Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday paid glowing tribute to ‘Utkal Keshari’ Harekrushna Mahtab during the 125th birth anniversary celebrations held at Ravenshaw University.

Joining the commemorative event were Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Cuttack MLA Bhartruhari Mahtab, and several other dignitaries.

Opening his speech with “Jai Jagannath,” Gadkari expressed joy at visiting the land of Lord Jagannath and said Mahtab’s contributions to Odisha’s identity and development remain unmatched.

“You can donate eyes, but not vision. Mahtab ji had the vision that shaped Odisha,” he remarked.

Highlighting Mahtab’s historical role in the construction of the Hirakud Dam, Gadkari praised his multifaceted personality as a scholar, writer, poet, and social reformer who championed educational advancement and social equality in the state.

He recalled how Mahtab, during his imprisonment in Maharashtra, authored the book History of Odisha, showcasing his deep commitment to the state’s legacy and future.

Gadkari urged Odisha’s youth to take inspiration from Mahtab and contribute to nation-building.

“It’s not how long we live, but what we do that defines us. Let’s work to make Odisha a leading light—a Vishwaguru—of India’s growth,” he said.

He concluded with a powerful message: “Generations will come and go, but Odisha’s future must be our priority.”
