The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully arrested four individuals in connection with the Digital Arrests case, following an extensive search operation conducted across 12 locations as part of Operation Chakra-V.

The accused—two from Mumbai and two from Moradabad—were allegedly involved in a transnational organized cybercrime network.

CBI has intensified its approach towards investigating Digital Arrest cases, prioritizing dismantling the infrastructure behind such offenses. In recent months, multiple cases of Digital Arrests have surfaced, prompting decisive action. The agency took charge of a case originally registered at Cyber Police Station, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, where a victim was digitally detained for over three months by cybercriminals impersonating law enforcement officials. The victim was subjected to 42 instances of extortion, amounting to ₹7.67 crores.

Upon taking over the investigation, the CBI conducted extensive data analysis and profiling to track the perpetrators. Advanced investigative techniques led to breakthrough leads, resulting in search operations across Moradabad, Sambhal, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Krishnanagar in West Bengal. Substantial evidence—including bank records, debit cards, cheque books, deposit slips, and digital devices—was recovered during the raids.

The arrested individuals have been remanded to five days of police custody, while further investigations continue. The CBI reiterates its commitment to combating rising cybercrime and transnational digital offenses, vowing sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
