Bhubaneswar: A marriage party bus was fined with an hefty amount of over lakhs for flouting several road safety guidelines under the amended MV Act.
As per available reports, the bus, carrying barat party from Jharkhand to Sundargarh, was challaned Rs 3.70 lakh fine for flouting several road safety guidelines.
The vehicle was intercepted by a police squad at Karamdihi under Sadar police limits during an enforcement drive. After a thorough check, the traffic inspector on-duty realised that insruance, fitness, pollution and road tax documents related to the bus were not valid.
At around 11 pm in the night, the police officials issued a challan of Rs 3.70 lakh for the aforementioned violations of MV Act. The bus was returning from Kurdeg in Simdega district of Jharkhand to Bargarh with a group which went for a marriage.
Meanwhile, Transport officials on Thursday slapped a fine of over Rs 2 lakh on a bus in Bhubaneswar for violating norms under new Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.
A challan of Rs 2,33,234 was issued to the bus driver namely Nilakantha Behera, a resident of Khandagiri area, during a special drive at Damana Square to check buses and other light vehicles used for carrying school students.
