Apple Launches First Touchscreen MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display: India Price, Features & Availability

After more than a decade of insisting that touchscreens on laptops were a bad idea, Apple has reversed course. On October 28, 2026, at its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles, the company unveiled the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display — its first laptop with a full touchscreen.

This isn’t a revival of the old Touch Bar. It’s a complete multi-touch display that lets you swipe, pinch, drag, and annotate directly on the screen while keeping the classic keyboard and trackpad experience intact.

What’s new on the touchscreen MacBook Pro

The biggest headline is the screen itself. Apple calls it the PROLED XDR Display — a tandem OLED panel that delivers deeper blacks, higher contrast (10,000,000:1), and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content. It supports ProMotion with a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and is the first Mac to feature a Dynamic Island, which houses the camera and can show Live Activities, Spotlight, music controls, and Siri.

The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple says reduces latency and makes interactions feel more responsive. A redesigned hinge helps keep the screen stable when you touch it, and the camera feed gets extra stabilization during video calls.

Other notable changes include:

  • The return of the glowing Apple logo on the lid (absent for roughly a decade).
  • A lighter design — the 14-inch model weighs about 3 pounds, and the 16-inch is around 4 pounds.
  • Up to 24 hours of battery life.
  • M5 Pro and M5 Max chips (not the newer M6 chip that powers the more affordable MacBook Pros announced a day earlier), with up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage.
  • Ports: MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SD card reader, and a headphone jack.
  • Improved six-speaker audio system, studio-quality microphones, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.

macOS is also better optimized for touch, automatically translating many taps into clicks so existing apps work reasonably well out of the box. Creative professionals — designers, video editors, musicians — are expected to benefit the most from the ability to interact directly with content.

India price and availability

In India, the new touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at **₹3,49,900** for the 14-inch model with the M5 Pro chip. The 16-inch M5 Pro version is priced at **₹4,09,900**.

Higher configurations with the M5 Max chip go up to ₹5,49,900 (14-inch) and ₹5,89,900 (16-inch). Education pricing brings the starting prices down to ₹3,31,900 and ₹3,85,900 respectively.

Pre-orders opened on October 28. Availability is expected from early November, with most reports pointing to November 6–9 (Apple’s India store lists availability from November 9). Eligible bank cards offer up to ₹15,000 instant cashback along with No Cost EMI options.

Why this launch matters

For years, Apple executives — including Steve Jobs and Tim Cook — dismissed the idea of touchscreen laptops as ergonomically poor. The company briefly experimented with the Touch Bar in 2016 before removing it. Under new CEO John Ternus, Apple has now decided the technology is mature enough, especially when paired with a premium OLED panel and a lighter chassis.

The touchscreen models sit above the regular M6 MacBook Pros launched the day before, which start significantly lower (₹2,39,900 for the 14-inch M6 in India) and do not include touch or the new OLED display.

Whether the premium is worth it will depend on how useful touch feels in daily professional workflows. Early hands-on impressions suggest the combination of the stunning PROLED XDR display and low-latency touch is the real draw, even if the chips themselves are not brand new.

For pros who have long wanted a Mac they could actually touch, this is the machine Apple finally built. For everyone else, the lower-priced M6 models remain the more practical choice.
