As a looming low-pressure system threatens to intensify into a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal, the Kendrapara district administration has stepped up its disaster preparedness, issuing strict precautionary directives.
District Collector Raghuram R. Iyer has announced comprehensive emergency measures, marking October 27, 28, and 29 as critical days for the region.
To ensure uninterrupted administrative response and swift rescue operations, the district administration has cancelled all leaves for government employees for the coming week. Officials have been strictly instructed to remain stationed at their respective workplaces to actively oversee storm-preparedness tasks.
Key Preparatory Measures Undertaken:
-
Shelters & Supplies: All 130 cyclone shelters across the district have been fully activated and stocked with adequate drinking water, food supplies, life-saving medicines, and other essentials.
-
Vulnerable Identification: Authorities have identified 373 sensitive pockets across 113 panchayats, laying out concrete evacuation plans to shift residents from danger zones to safer locations if necessary.
-
Festive Disruptions: With the annual Gajalakshmi Puja currently underway, the administration has requested puja committees to dismantle festival arches (torans) to prevent structural hazards from high-speed winds. Security measures around puja mandaps have also been reinforced.
The district control room is operating round-the-clock to handle emergency communications and assist citizens. The administration has strongly advised the public to remain vigilant, adhere strictly to official advisories, and cooperate with local authorities as the district braces for the weather system.
