A routine medical emergency took a horrific turn at the Maniabandha Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kataka district, leaving a duty physician critically injured following a violent assault by a patient’s relatives.

The victim, identified as Dr Santosh Kandola, sustained severe injuries during the attack and was initially given local first aid before being rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.

According to police and local reports, the incident unfolded when family members rushed a patient, Adarsh Seth from Kasikia village, to the CHC after he reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison. As Dr Kandola examined the patient and inquired about the specific substance and quantity ingested, tensions flared. The relatives, who claimed the patient had consumed sodium, suddenly turned aggressive.

Without warning, the attackers hurled potash water onto the doctor and struck him violently with a bucket, leaving him with critical injuries. The entire violent ordeal was captured by CCTV cameras installed within the healthcare facility.

Prompt action by the Maniabandha police prevented further escalation. Officers arrived at the scene, rescued the injured doctor, and facilitated his emergency transfer to SCB Medical College.

Acting swiftly on a formal complaint filed by Dr Kandola, police have registered a case and arrested two primary suspects, identified as Shraban Kumar Seth and Bijay Kumar Seth, who have been forwarded to court. Authorities confirmed that active manhunts and operations are currently underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the disgraceful assault.
