Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, alongside Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, has inaugurated two significant rail projects in Anuradhapura, aimed at modernizing Sri Lanka’s north-south railway connectivity.
The projects include the refurbishment of the 128 km Maho-Omanthai railway line, completed with Indian assistance amounting to $91.27 million, and the launch of an advanced signaling system from Maho to Anuradhapura, funded with a $14.89 million grant from India.
These initiatives are a testament to the growing India-Sri Lanka development partnership, focusing on enhancing efficiency in passenger and freight transportation. The leaders emphasized the shared vision of fostering closer ties through infrastructure and economic collaboration.
The railway upgrades are set to promote fast, efficient, and sustainable transportation, marking a new chapter in the bilateral relationship. Both countries hope this project will pave the way for future collaborations across diverse sectors.
