A 60-year-old man was brutally hacked to death with an axe while cleaning his backyard in Kadamguda village, under the Sirsi Gram Panchayat of Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Mundara Pujari (60), a resident of Dongriguda village under the Bikrampur Gram Panchayat, who was currently residing at his father-in-law’s house in Kadamguda.
According to reports, the horrific incident unfolded on Thursday morning when Mundara was busy clearing vegetation in the patch of land near his home. Eyewitness accounts and preliminary details suggest that Udayanath Amanatya, alias Shukru, a local resident, suddenly approached him and launched a savage attack with an axe.
Hearing Mundara’s cries of agony, his wife and daughter-in-law rushed to the spot. However, terrified by the violent assault and the attacker’s menacing presence, they were forced to flee for safety. Udayanath then walked back to his own home a short distance away. Tragically, Mundara succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene.
Displaying exemplary civic responsibility, the family members of the accused took swift action upon learning of the brutal crime. They tied Udayanath up with ropes inside their home to prevent any escape and immediately alerted the local police.
Papadahandi police rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress call, recovered the victim’s body for post-mortem, and formally arrested the accused. While the exact motive behind this senseless act of violence remains shrouded in mystery, police have launched an intensive investigation to unravel the underlying cause of the murder. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
