A peaceful Friday morning in Bandhapalli village turned into a scene of unimaginable grief after a wild elephant trampled a 60-year-old resident to death.
The victim, identified as Jagannath Rout, had stepped out of his home during the early hours of the day when he came face-to-face with the massive tusker. According to local reports, the animal is believed to have wandered out of a nearby forest reserve in search of food before stumbling into the residential pocket.
Before Rout could find safety, the wild animal launched a sudden attack, killing him on the spot. The unexpected tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, compounding growing anxieties over rising human-elephant conflicts in the region.
Promptly responding to distress calls from terrified residents, forest department officials rushed to the scene. They secured the area, recovered Rout’s body, and transferred it to the Badachana Community Health Centre to undergo a formal post-mortem examination. Local authorities are currently monitoring the elephant’s movement to ensure community safety and prevent further incidents.
