Cuttack: Cracking a whip against sand mining in Cuttack, police have arrested 11 persons and have seized nearly 7 tractors carrying the illegally mined sand from near Paika Sahi in Gopalpur area of the district.
Acting on a tip-off, the police today raided at a site near Paika Sahi of Gopalpur.
Police said that the sand was mined from the belt without any prior documentation.
The team seized seven tractors loaded with sand and have detained 11 persons for further questioning.
Sources said accused persons despite restrictions on sand mining in the area were reportedly carrying out mining in violation of the guidelines.
The river beds will be regularly monitored and strict action taken against persons involved in sand mining, cops stated.
