As the industrial landscape of eastern India undergoes a rapid transformation, Odisha is stepping onto the national stage to claim its stake as a premier manufacturing destination.
Headed by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, a high-powered delegation from Odisha has arrived in Mumbai for India Chem 2026, scheduled to open on October 22.
The two-day outreach is designed to project Odisha far beyond its traditional identity as a mining and metallurgy powerhouse. By leveraging its robust industrial infrastructure, progressive policies, and rich resource base, the State aims to anchor itself firmly in the chemical, petrochemical, plastics, and packaging value chains.
High-Level Engagements and Strategic Partnerships
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to participate in the inaugural session and a high-level CEO Roundtable chaired by Shri J. P. Nadda, Union Minister of Chemicals, Fertilisers and Health & Family Welfare. During the visit, the Chief Minister will engage in one-to-one discussions with top-tier executives from over 20 major chemical and petrochemical corporations.
These deliberations will centre on exploring downstream manufacturing, expanding industrial footprints, and establishing fresh ventures across Odisha. The State will share space with major industrial powerhouses like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan, underlining its rising prominence in national manufacturing strategies.
Spotlight on Coal Gasification and a Dedicated Industrial Park
A standout feature of Odisha’s presentation at the summit will be a dedicated spotlight on coal gasification, highlighting a futuristic and sustainable industrial opportunity for investors. Furthermore, the State is expected to announce plans for a dedicated, large-scale chemical industrial park. This strategic addition is designed to streamline integrated manufacturing, boost value addition, and offer a plug-and-play ecosystem for ancillary and downstream units.
Highlighting the vision behind these initiatives, Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Home and Information & Public Relations Departments, Government of Odisha, stated:
“Odisha has a strong industrial foundation, and we are now focused on expanding our presence in high-potential sectors such as chemicals and petrochemicals. Our participation at India Chem 2026 will provide an opportunity to engage directly with leading companies, present the State’s investment opportunities and explore partnerships for future growth.”
A Booming Industrial Track Record
Odisha’s aggressive push into the sector rests on proven momentum. Over the past two years, the State has attracted 56 companies in the chemical and petrochemical sector, representing massive proposed investments totalling Rs 1,93,087.94 crore and an employment potential of 1,12,324 people.
Tangible progress is already visible on the ground. A total of 27 projects worth Rs 60,825.34 crore (generating 35,351 jobs) have already been grounded or inaugurated. Highlighting recent milestones, Shri Hemant Sharma pointed to the recent groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies in Jajpur, where 9 projects worth ₹4,136 crore are set to create over 1,500 direct jobs, further validating the State’s execution capabilities.
Through its compelling showcase at India Chem 2026, Odisha is reaffirming its commitment to translating investment pledges into thriving industrial realities, accelerating economic growth, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for the region.
