Deogarh: A forest guard was electrocuted to death after he came in contact with a live wire allegedly laid by poachers to kill animals at Samapali village under Riamal Forest Range in Deogarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Pradhan (38) of Samapali village.
According to sources, Pradeep had gone outside at 6 AM yesterday and did not return home. Later, after a frantic search, his family members spotted Pradeep’s body in a vegetable garden at Jharanali on the banks of Tikira river at around 12 AM.
On being informed, Riamal police along with forest officials reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem.
While the exact cause behind the death of Pradeep is yet to be ascertained, locals alleged that he died after coming in contact with live electric wire that was laid by some poachers.
Police said wire and some other materials fitted to electrocute wild animals were seized and efforts are on to identify who were involved in the case.
