63 Maoists Surrender in Dantewada Under Chhattisgarh’s ‘Puna Margam’ Campaign

In a landmark development for Chhattisgarh’s peace efforts, 63 Maoist cadres surrendered to security forces in Dantewada on Friday under the ongoing ‘Puna Margam’ (Rehabilitation to Rejuvenation) campaign.


The surrender took place at the District Reserve Guard (DRG) office in Dantewada, where senior officials, including IG Bastar Range Sundarraj Pattilingam, hailed the initiative as a pivotal move toward lasting peace, dignity, and inclusive development.

Key Details of the Surrender

  • Total cadres surrendered: 63 (18 women, 45 men)
  • Bounty holders: 36 cadres with rewards totalling Rs 1.19 crore
  • Bounty breakdown:
    • 7 cadres with Rs 8 lakh each
    • 7 cadres with Rs 5 lakh each
    • 8 cadres with Rs 2 lakh each
    • 11 cadres with Rs 1 lakh each
    • 3 cadres with Rs 50,000 each

These operatives were active in the Darbha Division, South Bastar, West Bastar, Maad Division, and parts of Odisha.

Rehabilitation Support

According to Chhattisgarh’s Naxal Rehabilitation Policy, each surrendered cadre will receive:

  • Rs 50,000 financial assistance
  • Skill development training
  • Agricultural land allocation
  • Additional facilities for reintegration into society

Senior Maoist Leaders Among Surrendered

  • Mohan Kadti (DVCM): Involved in ambushes and killings since 2005
  • Sumitra Kadti alias Draupadi (Female DVCM): Linked to multiple encounters and arson incidents
  • Hungi alias Ankita (PPCM): Associated with propaganda and violent acts

Others had roles in IED blasts, vehicle burnings, road blockades, and propaganda campaigns.

Authorities’ Response

Security forces, including the DRG, Bastar Fighters, and CRP,F played a crucial role in persuading the cadres to surrender. Officials reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of India, Chhattisgarh Police, CRPF, and local administration to sustain peace through rehabilitation and inclusive development.

This mass surrender is being regarded as a milestone in the mission to make Bastar Naxal-free.
