Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave conditions followed by hot and humid weather conditions prevailed across the state with the maximum day temperature soaring to 40°C or above at 18 places in Odisha on Tuesday.
According to the IMD regional centre here, Paralakhemundi was the hottest place in the state with the maximum temperature rising to 42.8 °C today followed by Nayagarh 42.2°C.
As per the IMD observation, the maximum temperature rose to 41.8 °C at Bhubaneswar and Bolangir, followed by Angul at 41.7 °C, Malakangiri at 41.5 °C, Baripada & Nuapada at 41.2 °C, Titilagarh at 41 °C, Boudh at 40.7 °C, Bhawanipatna 40.6 °C, Chandbali at 40.4 °C, Balasore at 40.3 °C, Jharsuguda at 40.2 °C, while the mercury stood at 40 °C in Talcher, Sonepur, Kendrapara and Phulbani.
The IMD scientists informed that 38.8°C recorded today in Paradip is the second highest day temperature in April. The previous record was 38.2°C on 8th of April, 1989. Similarly, 40.7°C is the all-time record for the highest day temperature for April in Paradip
During the next 5 days, the day temperature is likely to increase by 4 to 6 degrees in many parts of the state and the heatwave conditionsis likely to continue, the IMD scientists said.
