A tragic incident unfolded in Puri district on Tuesday when a teenage boy was fatally struck by a speeding train while filming a reel on the railway tracks.
The victim, identified as 15-year-old Biswajeet Sahu, was a resident of Manglaghat. He had accompanied his mother to the Dakshinakali temple and was returning home when he stopped near Janakadeipur railway station, located under Chandanpur police limits. There, he began recording a video close to the railway line.
While filming, a fast-moving train approached and hit him. Locals who witnessed the accident rushed to his aid and transported him to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital. Despite efforts by medical staff, Biswajeet succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Upon receiving the alert, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrived at the scene. They retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
This incident has sparked concern over the growing trend of risky social media content creation among youth. Authorities have repeatedly warned against venturing onto railway tracks for photos or videos, emphasizing the dangers involved.
Local residents expressed grief over the loss and urged parents to educate children about the risks of such behavior. The railway department may review safety measures at stations where public access to tracks remains unregulated.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Officials are also expected to issue further advisories to prevent similar tragedies.
