In a major crackdown on human trafficking, Sinapali Police in Nuapada district on Monday rescued 13 migrant workers, including two minor children, who were being illegally transported to another state for bonded labour.
One labour contractor (sardar) was arrested, and a Bolero vehicle used for trafficking was seized.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Nuapada SP Amritpal Singh. Sinapali Police Station IIC Durgamadhab Bag and his team intercepted the vehicle during a raid.
The rescued workers belong to Nabarangpur, Balangir, and Kalahandi districts. Among them, two children were found being trafficked as child labourers. After the rescue, all were safely sent back to their native places.
Police have registered a case against the accused agent Hitesh Kumar of Khariar police station area and forwarded him to court, while further investigation is underway.
As per sources, Sinapli police have rescued more than 30 migrant workers in the last month alone.
