Eleven people—including seven children and four women—lost their lives when a passenger pick-up van collided with a stationary trailer truck on the Manoharpur highway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district on Wednesday.
The victims were returning to their village in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, after visiting the revered Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temples. The crash occurred around 4–5 AM in the service lane, where the van rammed into the parked truck. Authorities confirmed that twenty people were on board the van at the time of the incident.
Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar stated that eight individuals sustained injuries, with one reported to be in critical condition. District Collector Devendra Kumar initially reported ten fatalities, later revised to eleven, and confirmed that three victims were hospitalised while nine others were referred for advanced treatment.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed the district administration to ensure swift and proper medical care for the injured. “May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over highway safety and the need for stricter enforcement of parking regulations on service lanes.
