Zero Night celebrations in Bhubaneswar prohibited due to Covid-19 pandemic

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary has said there will be no zero night celebrations in the Capital city due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The New Year’s Eve will not be allowed in the city due to restrictions imposed for the month of December, Chaudhary said.

The cinema halls, entertainment complexes, theatres, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will also remain closed in the new year.

The BMC commissioner said that the December 31st celebration is not allowed as of now as the coronavirus norms for this month doesn’t allow any type of large gathering.

Chaudhary said that members of the Christian community had earlier approached the urban body over Christmas celebrations this year. A special provision has been made for them and with a limited number of guests, they can celebrate Christmas by following social distancing norms, he added.

The Church committees have to provide details of people visiting Churches for the celebration and whether there would be enough space to maintain social distance.
