Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday addressed the people of Odisha and appealed them to strictly follow Covid appropriate behaviours like wearing of masks, social distancing and other protocols in the wake of surge in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and certain other parts of the country.
In his address, the Odisha CM said, “Dear brothers and sisters, with your help, Odisha is in a good position in the fight against COVID-19. Even, WHO has praised our battle against the pandemic. Now our daily infections are below 100. Zero infection is our target but one shouldn’t get complacent as some states have once again reported a rise in Covid-19 cases.
“As I said before, I still say that self-satisfaction is not the right thing to do because the risk is still there, ” the CM added.
“In some states, including Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the situation is deteriorating. Lockdown is back in some parts of Maharashtra.
The memories of problems and hardships faced by people during lockdown are still fresh. The lockdown restrictions had adversely impacted the economy, social sectors and the education of children.
Due to cooperation and sacrifice of people, normalcy has now returned. Nobody wants to return to the lockdown phase and the only way out is to be cautious. People need to remain cautious and strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines.”
“We don’t want anyone to go back to Lockdown. The only way to avoid returning to lockdown is to be careful. If we will be careful, things would not go as planned. So my request is that we all continue to adhere to the Covid guidelines as before, ” said the CM.
