Cuttack: A youth was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on Nandankanan road near Raghunathpur village in Cuttack district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Bijay Behera, a resident of Raghunathpur village.
According to sources, the mishap occurred when Behera was plucking flowers near the divider early morning today. A speeding goods-laden van first hit a buffalo standing on the road and then ran over Behera. Later, the vehicle rammed to a roadside tree and fled the spot.
After spotting Behera in a pool of blood locals rushed him to Capital Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries which undergoing treatment.
The incident was reportedly recorded in a CCTV camera installed outside the Punjab National Bank(PNB) ATM located on the opposite side of the road, added sources.
Sources said, the buffalo was also admitted to a veterinary hospital.
A complaint was lodged by the wife of the deceased at the police station regarding the incident. Acting on the complaint, police examined the CCTV footages and launched a manhunt to trace the vehicle.
