Youth Forced To Do Sit-Ups For Assaulting Doctor In VIMSAR, Video Goes Viral

Sambalpur: A youth was forced to do sit-ups for allegedly assaulting a doctor at VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur district today. The matter came to light after the incident of the same went viral on social media platforms.

According to sources, a doctor stated to be an assistant professor of VIMSAR Burla verbally abused and forced the youth to do sit-ups in the presence of police in the hospital premises.

Taking cognisance to the video, DIG (South Western Range), Himanshu Lal said, “I will review the incident tomorrow and take necessary action against whoever is found guilty.”

Responding to the matter, Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) General Secretary Punyashloka Das informed that a fact-finding team will be sent to the Burla VIMSAR to probe under what circumstances the incident occurred.

Medicos of VIMSAR alleged that the incident occurred after police nabbed one of the two youths who had beaten up a doctor in the OPD on Sunday. However, family members of the detained youth alleged that the incident happened over a dispute as the doctor was treating their family member at a private clinic.

In a recent development, a case has been registered against the assistant professor u/s 506, 323, 341 and 34 (IPC) after the father of the youth has lodged a complaint at the police station.

The victim’s father has alleged that the concerned doctor was not attending their family member admitted in a private clinic and has also assaulted his son after he requested him to attend the patient.

Notably, on Sunday two youths entered the Neurology department of the hospital and allegedly thrashed Prof Suryakant Patjoshi. Later, one of the youth was detained by the police and the other one gave the cops a slip.
