New Delhi: Three-time Commonwealth gold and silver medalist Babita Phogat joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at New Delhi on Monday ahead of polls in Haryana, this year.
The wrestler may be fielded from either Badhra or Dadri assembly segments of Dadri district in the upcoming polls. The BJP-ruled Haryana will vote for a new 90-member assembly later this year.
Phogat had made the country proud by bagging a silver medal in the 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She is believed to be a staunch supporter of the BJP’s policies and vision of its leaders.
Recently, Phogat came out in support of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who had stoked controversy with his ‘lighter remark’ on ‘Kashmiri girls’.
Her father Mahavir Phogat, who has won the Dhronacharya award, has also joined the BJP. He had earlier joined the party of former chief minister OP Chautala’s son Ajay Chautala.
