Women’s World Cup: India Look For Second Straight Win

New Delhi: India take on New Zealand in their second match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in Hamilton on Thursday (March 10).

India began their campaign with a 107-run win over Pakistan at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. New Zealand started their campaign with a loss to West Indies and bounced back with a win over Bangladesh.

India Women had made 244 for 7 in 50 overs against Pakistan, with Smriti Mandhana, Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar making half-centuries. India were 114 for 6 at one stage before Rana and Vastrakar revived the team with a 122-run stand for the seventh wicket.

“Firstly, it was my dream to play in the World Cup and when you perform so well in the opening game, it boosts your confidence. I just want to contribute to the team in every way possible and today I did it somewhere,” Rana said after the game.

India’s bowlers took over, bowling Pakistan out for 137. Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up 4 for 31 while Sneh Rana and Jhulan Goswami picked up two wickets each.

India had played New Zealand in five ODIs prior to the World Cup, with the hosts New Zealand winning 4-1.
