Sydney: India outclassed defending champions Australia by 17 runs in the opening game of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Sydney on Friday. Put into bat, India posted 132 for four in their stipulated 20 overs.
The defending champions then started their run chase confidently with a 32-run opening stand, but spinner Poonam Yadav changed the scenario for India. Yadav struck four times in quick succession to jolt the Australian innings.
Poonam Yadav (4/19) and Shikha Pandey (3/14) helped India bowl out Australia for 115.
While Poonam Yadav starred with the ball picking up four wickets, Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 49 guided India to win against Australia.
