Woman’s body carried on cot for 30 kms in Malkangiri


Malkangiri: In yet another instance of disrespect to the dead, the body of a woman was carried on a cot for 30 kms allegedly after failing to get Mahaprayan hearse vehicle or ambulance.

The incident has been reported from Guruguda village under Mathili block in Malkangiri district.

According to sources, one Mude Kalmari fell ill following which her family members rushed her to a nearby hospital. However, the doctors present at the hospital allegedly expressed the inability to treat Mude.

Following this,  the family members of the woman took her near a sorcerer for treatment where the woman reportedly succumbed to her illness.

The family members of the deceased called up Mahaprayan hearse vehicle and ambulance to take the body to their home.

Neither Mahaprayan hearse vehicle nor an ambulance reached the place to take the body. Hit-by acute poverty the family members failed to hire another vehicle to carry the body to the village.

With no options left the family members carried the body in a sling for 30 kms from Temurupalli to Mathili.
