Woman, Son Killed In Elephant Attack In Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A woman and her minor son were killed in the attack of a wild elephant at Gadakuna village under Bhojpur forest in Sambalpur district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Reena Munda (46) and Sahit (10)

According to sources, a wild elephant entered the forest area in search of food late last night. The animal went on a rampage destroying many houses in the wee hours today. On seeing the wild elephant, some locals raised an alarm.

Meanwhile, Reena along with his husband, Prashant, and son tried to escape from the spot when the wild elephant trampled the trio. While the woman and her son died on the spot, Prashant sustained serious injuries.

Later, Prashant was rescued and admitted to Burla hospital in critical condition.

On being informed, forest department officials reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
