Digapahandi: Police have arrested a woman and sent her to jail on Monday for allegedly abetting the death of her daughter-in-law in Padmanavpur under Digapahandi PS limits.
She is identified as the wife Sahadev Sethi. Police said Shanti Sethi was responsible for abetting the suicide of her daughter-in-law Sujata on November 29 last year. The family members of Sujata alleged that she was tortured for dowry.
IIC Basant Kumar Sethi said Shanti was arrested after getting the post-mortem report.
Reports said Sujata’s body was recovered from a closed room from a rented house near the Canara bank here. She was pregnant at the time of death. On the fateful night, Sujata and her husband Chittaranjan had a brawl over some issue. Sujata’s family members alleged that that might have led to her suicide as she could not tolerate mental and physical torture.
