Woman held for ganja smuggling, Rs 1.7 lakh seized
Sambalpur: Police arrested a woman from Dhanupali area here for her alleged involvment in ganja smuggling racket and seized Rs 1.7 lakh from her possession on Tuesday.
While the woman, identified as Padmini Kushawaha, was arrested, her husband Dasraj Khuswa managed to escape during the police raid.
Sources said the couple was involved in transporting of the contraband from Boudh to Lahar area of Madhya Pradesh. Acting on reliable inputs about the smuggling of the contraband, the police team on Tuesday afternoon conducted a raid.
The police team intercepted the woman on suspicion and during the search 6 kg of ganja was found stashed in a bag. The police also seized the cash from the arrested woman.
Earlier, the couple was living in Lahar area in Madhya Pradesh. A few years ago, they had left the state and settled in Boudh area. Since then, they have been indulged in the illegal trade.
The police have registered a case against the woman and launched a manhunt to nab her absconding husband. Further investigation into the matter is on, the police said.
