Sambalpur: The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) here at Burla on Wednesday witnessed extremely rare deliveries at its Obstretrics and Gynecology department. A woman gave birth to four babies-one male and others female.
Though the condition of the newborns is stable, they have been admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the hospital due to underweight. The mother is stable and is under strict medical supervision, hospital sources said.
The woman identified as Kuni Suna of Banjipali village in Sonepur district was admitted to VIMSAR on Monday after she complained of labour pain.
On Wednesday, she gave birth to two baby girls at 2 PM, another baby girl at 2.02 PM and a baby boy at 2.04 PM. Doctors delivered the babies through cesarian section which took quite more time than other deliveries.
Doctors say such delivery is a complicated process and extremely rare- one in five crore.
