Woman Clerk Held For Embezzling Over Rs 1 Cr Govt Funds In Nabarangpur

Nabrangpur: A special team of police on Wednesday apprehended a woman clerk for allegedly embezzling government funds to the tune of over Rs 1 crore at Dabugaon tehsil office in Nabrangpur district.

The arrestee has been identified as Chandana Mandal, a senior clerk in the Dabugaan tehsil office, who was on run for the past six months to evade police arrest.

According to reports, the matter came to the fore after Dabugaon tehsildar lodged a complaint against Chandana alleging financial irregularities.

On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and launched a probe. During interrogation, Chandana suddenly fell unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Taking advantage of the situation, Chandana managed to flee from the spot.

After pertinent efforts, police nab the accused clerk after six months. Later, she was sent to jail custody as her bail plea was rejected. Further investigation is underway, the police said.
