Wildlife Smuggler Arrested With Leopard, Deer Hides In Boudh

Boudh: Police arrested a man on poaching charges in Boudh district of Odisha and seized the skin of one leopard and two deer from his possession on Saturday. The accused was identified as Girish Kumar Sahoo of Harabhanga village in the district.

He was apprehended after a team of STF conducted raid with the help of Forest Officials of Boudh Forest Division on the public road connecting from Chhatranga to Harabhanga basing on reliable tip-off of hi alleged possession of wildlife items.

The team also recovered a leopard hide, two deer skins and other incriminating documents from the possession of Sahoo. The raid was conducted on the public road connecting Chhatranga and Harabhanga.

A case (No. 5 dated 19.03.2023) has been registered at the STF police station under Sections 379/411/120(B) IPC r/w Section 51 of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. The accused will be forwarded to the court of JMFC, Harabhanga, Charichhak, Boudh, while the animal hides will be sent to Director WII, Dehradun for biological examination.
