Widow’s body found in Canal in Cuttack

Cuttack: The body of a widowed woman was found from a canal at Salepur village under Mahanga police station limits in Cuttack district.

The deceased woman was identified as Annapurna Mahapatra, daughter of Bharat Prashad Jena from the locality.

According to available information, Annapurna’s husband lost his life in a mishap and she was staying alone at a half-constructed house as her son and daughter-in-law work in Bangaluru. Hence, her nephew used to stay with her at night.

On Wednesday evening, her nephew came to her house, however, returned as the house was locked.

Meanwhile, Annapurna, who had gone to relieve herself, but, did not return home. Later, she was found dead in the water body.

Reportedly, the matter came to fore after some locals spotted the body floating in the canal and immediately informed the police about the matter.

The deceased’s father alleged that his daughter was raped and murdered by miscreants.

On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body for post mortem. An investigation has been initiated in this regard, police said.
