WHO chief asks countries to act during lockdown to wipe out coronavirus

Geneva: The WHO has asked countries to utilize the lockdown period to eradicated the virus or else it will rise further after the restrictions are over.

Addressing the media here, the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:  “To slow the spread of COVID-19, many countries introduced ‘lockdown’ measures. But these measures, on their own, will not extinguish epidemics. We call on all countries to use this time to attack the coronavirus. You have created a second window of opportunity”.

The reports said the positive cases of coronavirus is nearing 500,000 globally and there is a sense of panic the world over.

More than 3 billion people across the world are currently in lockdown and over 21,000 people have succumbed to the disease so far. Though the epicenter of the pandemic was in Wuhan in China’s Hubei province, Italy was ravaged by coronavirus.
