New Delhi: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence today to discuss the state’s law and order situation, following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata.
Sources say the Governor gave a comprehensive update on West Bengal’s current state of affairs.
Nationwide protests, especially in Kolkata, have flared up due to the trainee doctor’s rape and murder, with demonstrators calling for prompt action. On August 27, university students in Kolkata led a march, breaking through security barricades to demand the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her management of the case.
The governor arrived in Delhi last evening for this scheduled meeting.
Additionally, last week, Governor Bose briefed President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar about the RG Kar incident and its aftermath in the state.
The deceased postgraduate trainee’s body was discovered in a seminar hall at the hospital on the morning of August 9. Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was apprehended in connection with the crime the following day.
The handling of the case by Kolkata Police and the hospital administration has faced scrutiny, with the Supreme Court pointing out the 14-hour delay in registering the FIR. The Central Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the case.
