Weekend Shutdowns: Odisha govt issues revised order regarding exemption of services

Bhubaneswar: As the Odisha government announced several tough measures to tackle the COVID-19 challenge, the state government has issued a revised order where various services are exempted during the weekend shutdown.

Home delivery of food by restaurants and aggregators like Zomato and Swiggy, LPG distribution, and newspaper hawkers (5 am to 8 am) has been exempted during the weekend shutdowns.

The government ordered a complete weekend shutdown in 11 migration-prone districts in June.

The shutdown will be enforced in Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Bolangir on all Saturdays and Sundays till June 30.

The order was given to curb the rapid spread of coronavirus in the state which increased after lakhs of stranded migrants to their hometowns in Odisha.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has explained the rationale behind weekend shutdown in 11 districts and 10-hour night curfew, from 7 PM-5 AM, saying that together, both of these will have kept people indoors for 17 days in June.
