Balasore: The water level of Jalaka river on Tuesday crossed the danger mark near Mathani following incessant rain in the district.

The present water level stood at 6.46 metre against the danger level of 5.50 metre.

The sudden increase in the water level of the Jalaka river was triggered by the heavy rain which lashed upper catchment areas including Rasgovindpur, Suliapada, and Chitrada of neighbouring Mayurbhanj district yesterday.

Sources said the catchment areas of Jalaka, Subarnarekha, and Budhabalanga rivers have received heavy rainfall since the last one day.
