New Delhi: Mobile number portability allows users to shift to a new telecom operator without changing their number. But before initialising this process, note that your existing connection must be active for 90 days and all your bills should be cleared. Here is how to do it.

Get a sim port like this

  1. To get the SIM port, users have to send an SMS to 1900 from their existing number.
  2. In SMS, you have to enter your phone number by giving space after PORT.
  3. After this, a unique porting code will come to your number.
  4. Then go to that operator’s retail store or use home service.
  5. You will need some documents to port the SIM. This includes address proof and a passport-size photograph.
  6. After depositing the port fee, your document verification will be done.
  7. After the verification is complete, the existing SIM will be turned off and you will have to insert a new SIM. It takes about 5 to 7 days for the whole process.
