Vigilance Seizes Crypto Currency Worth Rs 1.75 Cr In RWSS Engineer’s House Search

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Friday seized crypto currency (virtual digital assets) worth over Rs 1.75 crores during raid at the house of additional chief engineer Nihar Ranjan Das, RWSS, in Bhubaneswar.

Amount of crypto currencies is likely to increase as many documents are yet to be deciphered, vigilance said. The Virtual Digital Assets are still being verified by the Financial Wing of Odisha Vigilance with the assistance of Crypto Experts.

Apart from crypto currencies, the vigilance also seized a 3 BHK Flat in Bhubaneswar worth Rs.32.5 Lakhs, a triple storeyed building at Modipoara in Sambalpur, six plots in prime area of Sambalpur town, Bank and Insurance deposits worth about Rs.64.42 Lakhs, Cash Rs.1,07,785, Gold jewelry worth over Rs.10 Lakhs, two four wheelers, two two-wheelers (Royal Enfield) worth Rs.3 Lakhs and household articles worth over Rs.15.55 Lakhs.

On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, the antigraft agency conducted simultaneous raids at six places in Khurdha, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts since morning.

The searches were carried out at following places-

1) Residential house at Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar.

2) One triple storeyed building at Modipara, Sambalpur.

3) House at native village Rohiniyan in Bargarh.

4) House of his relative at Kharavela Nagar, Bhubaneswar.

5) House of his relative at Lalit Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar, Sanapalla, Dist-Khurdha.

6) Office room located at office of Superintending Engineer, RWS&S, PMDI Circle, Bhubaneswar.

The anti corruption agency formed six teams comprising five DSPs, 12 Inspectors, a Sub-Inspector, 11 ASIs and others to conduct searches.
