Vigilance court orders for confiscation of property around 8 crore of former engineer


Cuttack: Hearing a 20-year back corruption case, a Special Vigilance Court in Odisha today ordered to confiscate immovable properties to the tune of Rs 27,80,503 of an Ex-Executive Engineer of the R&B Division, Cuttack.

According to reports, the Vigilance sleuths had conducted raids at house and different places linked to Ex-Engineer of Odisha government, Charu Chandra Parida, on May 16 in 1997.

A case was registered against Parida on charges of possessing disproportionate assets. On completion of the investigation, charge sheet was placed against him for possessing disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 28,54,627.

Later, the case was forwarded to court. Today hearing the case the court ordered confiscation of the immovable properties of Parida to the tune of Rs 27,80,503.

The court has directed Parida and others involved in the corruption case to surrender all the immovable assets mentioned below within a period of 30 days before SP, Vigilance Cell, Cuttack or deposit the market price of the said properties with the court within the notice period.

The immovable properties liable for confiscation are as follows:

  1. Land purchased at Mouza Bagbrundaban vide SD No 999 on 4.3.1989 of Rs 11,551
  2. Land purchased at Mouza Bagbrundaban vide SD No 2432 on 25.5.1987 of Rs 22,209
  3. Land purchased at Mouza Sikharpur, Cuttack, of Rs 28,264
  4. Land purchased at Mouza Ganeswarpur of Rs 4,120
  5. Land purchased at Mouza Ganeswarpur of Rs 6,499
  6. Land purchased at Mouza Ganeswarpur of Rs 6,499
  7. Cost of two-storey building at Balasore town, Srikanthapur and cost of three-storey building at Sikharpur in Cuttack of Rs 10,51,643
  8. Cost of three-storey building at Remuna Golei, Balasore ( Hotel Trimurty) of Rs 16,45,450
