Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla assumes command of Southern Naval Command


New Delhi: Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla on Tuesday assumed charge of the Southern Naval Command (SNC) as its 28th Flag Officer Commanding- in-Chief after replacing Vice Admiral AR Karve, PVSM, AVSM, who retired after 38 years of yeoman service.

Vice Admiral Chawla, was previously the Chief of Personnel at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, Navy at Delhi.

A static ceremonial parade, consisting of 16 platoons including 4 armed platoons and a 50 men “Guard of Honour” was held at the naval base on the occasion in which both the admirals were accorded General Salutes and which concluded with a “March in Review Order”.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Vice Admiral Chawla was commissioned in the Navy on January 1, 1982. He is a Navigation and Direction specialist who has commanded five ships including the now decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

He was awarded the Nausena Medal in 2003 for his performance during Op-Parakram, Vishisht Sena Medal and Ati-Vishisht Seva Medal in 2013 for his distinguished service.
